To find out more or if you are unsure whether Nicole can assist with the difficulties your child or adolescent is currently facing, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What to Expect:

When working with your family, Nicole will begin with an initial parent only assessment. This approach enables Nicole to take a thorough history and to understand your child or adolescent’s problems in their broader family and school contexts.

Based on this information, Nicole will collaborate with you as the parent/s regarding the most effective treatment plan. At times, it may be best to proceed with parent sessions. Sometimes, it would be helpful for Nicole to see your child/adolescent on their own. Other times, it is recommended that your child or adolescent attend sessions together with you as their parent/s. Nicole works flexibly and will tailor the treatment approach to your specific family.

When working with young people, parent involvement is strongly encouraged and enables the skills your child or adolescent learns in sessions to be supported at home. Regardless of the particular emotional or behavioural challenge, a strong parent-child relationship is your child’s most important asset as they navigate life’s ups and downs.

For children or adolescents that express resistance or are not yet ready to seek help themselves, Nicole offers parent coaching to help guide you in how best to support them until they are ready to engage in therapy themselves.

Parent Coaching

To resource and strengthen your family, you must first resource yourself.

Parenting is arguably the most challenging, most rewarding, and most important job in the world. Yet, you are launched into parenthood without a compass to follow.

Your only experience comes from how you were parented and even then, you find yourself with a clearer picture of what you don’t want to do rather than a strong vision for how you do want to parent. The more you speak to other parents, the more confusing it gets. And for those with a parenting partner, it can be hard to agree on what approach to take.

Informed by the latest research, Nicole teaches a connection-based parenting approach that emphasises the crucial role of strong-parent child relationships in supporting children’s healthy development and overall well-being. She draws upon a range of connection, attachment, respectful, and mindful parenting approaches including Emotion Coaching, Circle of Security, Hand in Hand parenting, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions, and the work of Dan Siegel and Tina Payne-Bryson.

Children thrive when parents set age-appropriate limits with warmth and empathy. As a parent, you have the potential to be a powerful regulating force for your children. Your connection can support them to move from a reactive state where they display off-track behaviour to a receptive state in which they can best learn and grow. It is through these experiences of co-regulation that your children will develop the self-regulation skills they need to succeed in their future endeavours.

But with everything on your plate, it can be hard to stay calm and connected. The deep love you have for your child can sometimes fuel intense worry and frustration. There are societal pressures all around and most parents don’t have access to the village it takes to raise a child.

Parent coaching offers you a safe base and guiding light as you navigate the everyday challenges of parenthood.

What to Expect:

After a thorough assessment to understand your family context, Nicole will support you in clarifying your parenting vision and learning practical strategies to work towards that vision. You will learn to identify the needs and emotions underlying your child’s off-track behaviours and will better understand your crucial role in supporting healthy emotional development.

Through identifying your triggers and processing the strong feelings your children elicit in you, you will be in the best position to access the internal resources needed to effectively implement a connection-based parenting approach and support your child’s well-being.

Telehealth Consultations

Conveniently access support from wherever you may need it.

In addition to face-to-face appointments, Nicole offers Telehealth consultations via a secure video conferencing platform.

Please ensure you have a private space as well as a suitable device with stable internet connection (preferably a computer, laptop or tablet rather than a phone due to the screen size). You will be emailed a URL link prior to your appointment time.

There have been recent changes enabling Australians to claim a Medicare rebate for Telehealth appointments. Please get in touch with Nicole to confirm you are eligible.

Evidence-Based Therapeutic Approaches

Nicole integrates a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to your unique needs including:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Schema Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Compassion-Focussed Therapy
  • Family systems
  • Mindfulness
  • Interpersonal Neuroscience
  • Attachment-Focussed Interventions

These therapies aim to support symptom reduction, minimise the negative impact of symptoms, improve life engagement, build emotion regulation skills, boost relationship functioning, and address underlying issues and dysfunctional patterns that contribute to mental health problems and other life difficulties. Together, these techniques will help you develop agency and build the internal resources and skills necessary to pursue your chosen path.
